SCI Summary: SCI supports people with disabilities, behavioral challenges, medically complex needs, transitioning youth, the elderly, and other populations using Maryland Department of Health's Targeted Case Management and Supports Planning work models.

Position Summary: Under the direction of the Head of Design and in close collaboration with the Creative Manager, the Design Specialist will produce compelling branded assets that bring SCI's mission and strategic vision to life. Working cross-functionally within the Marketing and Communications team, this role supports the development of high-quality visual materials for both digital and print platforms—ensuring alignment with brand standards, accessibility guidelines, and person-centered values.

Essential Duties:

  • Create on-brand visual assets across a variety of formats, including presentations, print collateral, social media graphics, infographics, and website visuals.
  • Support the maintenance and organization of SCI's digital asset library (via a Digital Asset Management system), including uploading, tagging, and categorizing assets for easy access and retrieval.
  • Assisting with photography and supporting the setup and coordination of multimedia photo and video projects.

Education Required:

  •  Bachelor's Degree in Graphic Design 

Experience Required:

  • Minimum of 3 years of professional design experience, preferably within an agency or in-house creative team environment.
  • A portfolio showcasing a range of design work across digital and print media is required and should demonstrate creativity, attention to detail, and adherence to brand standards.
  • Demonstrate a strong working knowledge of or comfort with basic photography equipment, such as point-and-shoot cameras, and supporting the setup and coordination of multimedia photo and video projects.

Position Skills:

  • Strong foundation in typography, color theory, layout, and composition principles.
  • Solid understanding of branding, brand development, and multichannel marketing strategies.
  • Ability to adapt quickly and work across a variety of project types in a fast-paced environment.
  • Openness to growth with a willingness to learn new techniques, tools, and creative approaches beyond current comfort zones.
  • Experience in motion graphics, UX/UI design, and photography is a plus, but not required.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop), Microsoft Office, and Canva.

Physical Demands: Generally, presents standard office environment. Must be able to remain in a stationary position >95% of the time. Continually operates a computer, keyboard and mouse, and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, printer, and mobile Smartphone device. Constantly positions self to comfortably maintain computer equipment. May occasionally be required to move about in an office setting or position office equipment weighing between 10-25 pounds. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision. Ability to operate a motor vehicle. The person in this position frequently communicates with other people. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.

IT Roles must be able to position self to maintain computers and equipment, including under desks and in server room(s). Frequently moves equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
